He revealed that Infosys, a renowned IT company, is planning to significantly expand its workforce at its New Town campus soon. The company is expected to hire approximately 5,000 individuals for various roles at this location.

Commencement of Recruitment Process
The day after the official announcement of Infosys’ new campus launch, Supriyo confirmed to the Times of India that the company has already begun the recruitment process. He stated, “Infosys has fulfilled the promise of starting the campus. The company has informed me that the recruitment drive has started.”
Infosys’ New Campus and Its Impact
In May, Infosys, a prominent IT company, marked the inauguration of its new campus spread over 17.5 acres with the celebration of Akshyay Tritiya, a traditional ceremony. This ceremony is considered auspicious and is often associated with new beginnings, making it a fitting event for the launch of the new campus.
Following the ceremony, Infosys conducted a trial run of office operations. This trial run served as a preliminary test to ensure the smooth functioning of the campus facilities and infrastructure. It allowed the company to identify and address any potential issues before the campus became fully operational.
Transition of Existing Employees
Babul Supriyo, the State Information Technology Minister, illuminated an important aspect of Infosys’ operational transition. He pointed out that about 800 employees had been working at a separate rented location for more than one year. These employees were not initially part of the new campus.
However, as part of Infosys’ strategic plan to consolidate its operations and workforce, these 800 employees have now been relocated to the new campus. This move signifies a major shift in the company’s operational dynamics, bringing together a significant portion of its workforce under one roof. It not only enhances operational efficiency but also fosters a unified organizational culture.

History of Infosys’ Bengal Project
Infosys first announced the Bengal project in 2008. The then government, led by Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, offered the IT giant a 90-acre site. However, the project faced a setback due to an arson incident at a resort near the proposed site.
When Mamata Banerjee assumed office in 2011, she offered 50 acres of land each to Infosys and Wipro. However, Infosys insisted on being granted Special Economic Zone (SEZ) status, which the Chief Minister of Bengal opposed.
The project was revived for the third time in 2017 when the Bengal government proposed an alternative plan. This plan allowed for 49% of the site to be used for non-IT purposes and 51% for IT purposes. At the end of 2017, an agreement was signed between Banerjee and Infosys. The work commenced after the plot was handed over but faced further delays due to the pandemic.
