SSDI July Payment Dates Announced

Social Security doesn’t just help people who can’t work because of a disability. It also helps families if the person who makes most of the money for the family dies. Plus, it gives people money they can use when they retire. According to the SSA, about 67 million people, or one out of every five people in the U.S., get Social Security money. Most of these people are older, but some are young people whose parents have died or people who get SSDI.

Eligibility Requirements for SSDI

To get SSDI, you have to show that you can’t work because of your disability and that you’ve paid certain taxes. But, SSDI might not be enough to pay for everything, so you might need to find other ways to make money. Also, to get disability benefits, you must meet the SSA’s definition of disability. This means you can’t work for a year or more because of a serious medical problem, or you’re very sick and might die soon.

Some people who get SSDI might also be able to get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. These two programs have different goals, but some people might be able to get both if they meet certain rules. The SSA says you don’t need to fill out two different applications, and SSI benefits can’t be more than what you make each month.

SSDI Check Mailing Dates

Every month, the SSA sends out three groups of payments. They decide who gets paid first based on when the person was born. Here’s when the checks will be sent out in July:

  • Second Wednesday (July 10th): People born between the 1st and 10th.
  • Third Wednesday (July 17th): People born between the 11th and the 20th.
  • Fourth Wednesday (July 24th): People born between the 21st and the 31st.

SSDI Check Amount

The SSA figures out how much money you get based on how much you made before you became disabled and what kind of disability you have. For example, if you can’t see, you might get a different amount of money. But, how bad your disability is won’t change how much SSDI money you get. The SSA uses your average earnings over a certain period to figure out your SSDI check. This is often called your average indexed monthly earnings (AIME).

The SSA uses this number to figure out your primary insurance amount (PIA), which is the starting point to figure out your benefit. Here’s how much money people will get from the program in 2024:

Disability Benefits
SSDI Check
On average
$1,537
Other payments
Blind recipients: $2,590
Maximum payment
$3,822
