This is a high-level position with a 5-year fixed-term contract. The Company Secretary will be part of the executive team and will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

What Will You Do?
As the Company Secretary, you will have a wide range of responsibilities. You will:
- Give legal advice to the Board Members.
- Make sure the NSFAS follows all relevant laws.
- Oversee the Secretariat function.
- Prepare for Board and Committee meetings.
- Keep track of minutes, resolutions, work plans, and actionable items from meetings.
- Make sure Board decisions are communicated to the right people.
- Update Board and Sub-Committee documents as needed.
- Implement and maintain procedures.
- Arrange training for new Board and Sub Committee members.
- Analyze legal compliance and regulatory risk for the Board and create a compliance register.
- Plan the annual Board calendar according to the reporting timelines as per PFMA, 1999.
What Do You Need to Apply?
You should have an LLB or B. Com-Law degree and a Postgraduate Qualification in Business or Corporate Governance. You should also be admitted as an Attorney. You need 5 years’ experience in company secretariat functions and legal, governance, or commercial advisory functions. You should be familiar with the public sector and know the PFMA, National Treasury Regulations, Government Prescripts, and the King Reports on Corporate Governance. You should also be proficient in MS Office.
It would be great if you were a member of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries (CIS) and had knowledge of the higher education sector.

You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You should be a team player and be able to work under pressure. You should be proactive, analytical, and have problem-solving skills. You should also be flexible and adaptable to different environments and have good planning and organizing skills.
What’s the Pay?
The position of Company Secretary at the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) comes with a competitive Total Cost to Company (TCC) package. The TCC is a comprehensive measure of all the costs of employing an individual. It includes not just the basic salary, but also other benefits such as health insurance, retirement contributions, bonuses, and any other perks that the company may offer.
The contract for this position is set for 5 years. This means that once hired, the individual will be expected to serve in the role for this period. This provides both the employee and the employer with a sense of stability and long-term planning.
