PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana 2024

The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana was introduced in the 2024-25 budget by the then Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman. Its primary objective is to enhance the affordability and accessibility of solar energy for households by providing them with subsidized rooftop solar panels. By using these solar panels to generate their own electricity, families can significantly reduce their electricity bills.

Furthermore, if they produce surplus electricity, they can sell it back to the electric grid, thus generating extra income. The government directly provides financial support to families bank accounts and offers low-interest loans to ensure that the installation of solar panels does not become a financial burden. This initiative focuses particularly on aiding low- and middle-income households by cutting their energy expenses and promoting sustainable energy sources.

Objectives of PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana

The PM Surya Ghar Scheme is designed with several key objectives:

  • Lower Electricity Costs: It provides households with up to 300 units of free solar electricity monthly, significantly reducing their power bills.
  • Promote Green Energy:Promotes the transition from non-renewable fuels to eco-friendly solar power, lessening the environmental footprint.
  • Enhance Self-Sufficiency: Helps families become energy-independent by generating their own electricity.
  • Create Jobs: Generate employment opportunities for installing and maintaining solar panels.
  • Improve Energy Security: Diversifying energy sources and reducing reliance on the grid enhance national energy security.

Benefits of PM Muft Bijli Yojana

The yojana offers several key benefits:

  • Saving Money: Families can save a lot of money by using free solar electricity from their rooftop panels. Plus, if they make more power than they use, they can sell it back to the electricity companies and make some extra money.
  • Help for Electric Vehicles: The extra electricity thatā€™s made can also be used to charge electric cars, which saves money and is good for the environment.
  • Job Opportunities: The scheme helps the local economy by creating a need for solar panel vendors and installers. This opens up new business opportunities and gives jobs to people who know how to install and maintain solar panels.
  • Government Savings: The scheme helps the government save money on energy costs by reducing the need for electricity from the national grid. This could allow the government to use resources for other important services.
  • Helping the Environment: Using more solar energy means using less fossil fuels, leading to less carbon emissions and less environmental harm.
  • Better Energy Security: The scheme promotes a shift to decentralized solar power generation, improving the countryā€™s overall energy security by making it less dependent on centralized power sources that can fail and be inefficient.
