The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) is a well-known program the Canadian government runs. It’s designed to support the country’s eligible senior citizens financially. But there’s another part of this plan that not many people know about – the CPP Children’s Benefits. This benefit is specifically for the dependent children of CPP contributors who are either disabled or have passed away. The benefits are given out every month to those who are eligible.

Different Types of CPP Children’s Benefits
There are two specific types of CPP Children’s Benefits that the government provides:
- A Disabled Contributor’s Child’s Benefit: This is a monthly financial support provided to a child already receiving the CPP Disability Benefit. It’s designed to help ease the financial burden on families where the contributing parent or guardian is disabled and thus may have limited income. The amount of this benefit can vary and is determined based on the contributor’s payment history into the CPP.
- A Surviving Child’s Benefit: This is a monthly financial support given to the child of a contributor who has passed away. The key condition here is that the deceased contributor must have made sufficient contributions to the CPP during their lifetime for their child to be eligible for this benefit. This benefit aims to provide financial assistance to the child without the contributing parent or guardian. The amount of this benefit is also determined based on the deceased contributor’s payment history into the CPP.
These benefits are directly deposited into the beneficiaries’ bank account or mailed as cheques.
